Mini-budget: What it means for you and your finances

    A lényegesebb dolgok:

    - the basic rate of income tax (which applies to people who earn between £12,571 to £50,270) will fall from 20% to 19% from 1st April 2023. Aki legalább 50270 fontot keres évente, annak 377 fonttal nő a nettó éves fizetése.

    - the 1.25% rise in National Insurance will be cancelled on 6 November 2022 (visszatérünk a 2022 előtti adókulcshoz).

    - the government has announced a cut to stamp duty, the tax paid when people buy a property in England and Northern Ireland. The threshold at which the tax falls due has been raised to £250,000 from its current £125,000 level. Meanwhile the threshold for first-time buyers has been increased from £300,000 to £425,000.

Sterling has extended falls against the dollar and is now heading towards $1.10. It was around $1.12 before Kwasi Kwarteng started his announcement.

Jane Foley, currency strategist at Rabobank, says that investors are "worried that some of these tax cuts that have been announced aren't going to be fully funded [and] that will result in a large amount of debt at a time when the Bank of England is going to be selling some of its holdings of UK government debt".

She said: "‘I know some of our clients are certainly panicking."
Foley added: "I think this government does need to provide a lot more reassurance that it does have fiscal sensibility in order. This is not the message that's come across this morning."
