  Inconsistant temperatures were being reported on the VNF3-250 (and I gather on the ZNF). Clawhammers were dfferent than Newcastles, and there were major differences among the Newcastles. Since the difference was 30C people were rightfully concerned. I was reminded that there were 3 different Newcastles!!! (4 if you want to be technical) And if we could distinguish them from each other users could use the temp readings properly with confidence. This was no easy matter,as there are 5 socket 754 cpu's with 2 code names, and 3 suffix's with 2 cache sizes and a few other complications to keep us on our toes. As far as I can tell, this info does not exist in a single easy to understand document. The best I can do is collect it, I don't know if I can make it concise.
  
  The Theory
  The original Clawhammer had its temp diode located near the 1M cache. Disabled cache Clawhammers (SH7-CO) relabeled Newcastle showed inaccurately low temps. When AMD designed the Newcastle (DH7-CG) based on the 512k Clawhammer they moved and/or changed the diode to restore accuracy.
  
  Assumptions
  The transition from SH7-CO to DH7-CG cpu's was supposed to be transparent to motherboard manufacturers. AMD forgot about one little detail.
  
  
  Predictions
  1) The DH7-CG will have the consistantly higher temperatures than SH7-CO Clawhammers.
  2) 512k Clawhammers will show consistantly lower temps than 1M Clawhammers.
